Inside South Africa's Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, visitors can find the oldest land mammal (rhinoceros), the largest land mammal (elephant), the oldest fish (coelacanth), and the largest marine mammal (whale) existing within the same ecosystem. This unique region of 600,000 acres has 220 km of pristine coastline and beaches, 25,000-year-old coastal dunes, 45,000-year-old peat wetlands, and the last major swamp forest left in the Southern Hemisphere.

THE SPECIES - The park houses 526 bird species, 5 marine turtle species (being the last significant breeding ground for leatherback and loggerheads), 2 whale species, the greatest concentration of crocodile and hippo in South Africa, 36 snake species, 110 butterfly and 80 dragonfly species, 100 coral species & 2000+ flowering plant species.

REQUIREMENTS - Minimum 2 nights stay. 2-6 riders. Only riders with enough experience that they can handle a horse at any pace and speed. No riders less than 12 years of age or over 100kg.

ACCOMMODATIONS - The True Horse Safari provides large, old-style colonial tents. Inside are beds with headboards and kists at your feet to place your bags upon. Each tent has a private full bathroom separated from the bedroom by a zippered divider. The simpler Adventure Horse Safari is perfect for families, backpackers, or those who prefer a more rugged experience. The domed tents have comfortable beds and a nearby shared bathroom complete with a bucket shower and "long drop loo."

Each trip provides food and beverages including red and white South African wines and a variety of local beers and spirits.
