PAKIRI BEACH HORSE RIDES

A hidden treasure along New Zealand's coastline, Pakiri Beach is an hour or so drive from the bustling hub of Auckland and a world away from it all. The private beaches have been passed down from generation to generation of the Maori tribe Ngatiwai Iwi and are opened to guests of Pakiri for day rides, multi day horse treks, or just relaxing on the beach and listening to the waves crashing from your beachfront cabin.

THE RIDING

Rides range from two hours to seven days, offering a ride for all abilities.

Rahui's Ride - (2-3 days) -
Rahui Te Kiri was the daughter of the paramount chief, Te Kiri, whose territory included the land the ride goes over. She owned the lands and lived at Little Barrier Island until her 102nd year. The ride includes a full day ride to Te Arai Point along beautiful Pakiri Beach through white sand dunes, pine forest, and native New Zealand rainforest. Swim with your horse in freshwater lakes, ride to the Pa site of Te Kiri high above the sea overlooking the islands to the east. Return to the beach and ride along and over farmland to Whangaripo, following an old Kauri logging trail before your return to Pakiri. Accommodations in beachfront chalets.

Vines and Markets Ride - (3 Days) - Begin with an introductory ride along the white sand of Pakiri Beach with views out to Little Barrier Island and Great Barrier Island and the cries of sea birds above empty sand dunes. Overnight in cabins on the beach and take off in the morning for a full days ride over high farm country towards Leigh. Stop for a picnic lunch and overnight at a cozy lodge for a warm spa or a cool swim in the pool. After breakfast, you will depart for Matakana Farmers Market and Craft Market and the world-famous Morris and James Pottery. Lunch at Herons Flight Vineyard with a wine tasting at Ransom Matakana Estate, Ascension, Omaha Bay and other vineyards. Evening ride back to Pakiri.

Tenetahi Trail - (4 days) - Tenetahi was the husband of Rahui Te Kiri. He was a great seaman and sailed the "Trangitira" to victory in the Auckland Cup sailing race. Tenetahi's Ride includes riding along white sand beach to Te Arai overlooking the islands of Tanranga and the Barrier Islands, following trails run by the great warrior and runner Taukokopu, forest and beach riding, visiting the town of Leigh, and accommodations at beachfront chalets and a traditional Maori meeting house.

Warrior Ride - (5 days) - Ride the trails of the ancestors, enjoy the outlook of a paramount Maori chief and visit his ancient Pa site (fortress) high above the Pacific Ocean. Tread the paths of his people and sleep in their sacred house, the Marae. Enjoy the company of his descendants and the stories and food they share with you.

Coast to Coast (7 days) - An epic riding adventure following the mighty Hoteo River to the black sands and the wild seas of the Tasman Sea in the west. Cross rugged high country hills and forest through white sands and blue waters of the Pacific Ocean in the east along the trails used by Maori ancestors. Cross through farming lands and overnight in home stays and beachfront chalets. Visit stud farms, secret waterfalls, sheep stations, and small towns
