Your adventure begins in Quito as you board a plane for a 25 minute flight that crosses over the magesic, snow-capped Andes and into the depths of the Amazon. In the port city of Puerto Francisco de Orellana (locally known as Coca), you will meet your bilingual guide who accompanies you to the private dock where you board a covered, motorized canoe for a 2 hour, 50 mile trip down the Napo River (the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazonia). As you exit your canoe, you cross a boardwalk through a dense palm forest to the edge of the Pilchicocha Lake where you cross in dugout canoes (paddlers provided) to reach your final destination--the 5000 acre ecological reserve

THE RESORT

Set within a 5,000 acre private ecological reserve in Ecuador's primary amazon jungle the lodge is an oasis of pristine nature in harmony with comfortable and unique accommodations. The lodging was carefully designed to offer comfort yet preserve the environment and rainforest ambience. All 26 cabins feature high thatched roofs and private shaded terraces. All are constructed from traditional materials and sit concealed within the lush surroundings. The rooms offer private bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers. All cabins are screened against insects. From the main lounge guests my rest in hammocks, enjoy the bar and take in the view of Pilchicocha Lake.

ACTIVITIES

Sacha Lodge's exclusive attractions include the canopy walk, the Kapok tower for bird watching, the butterfly house, and the Yasuni parrot lick, which all guests have access to.

Guided tours are divided into small groups led by two guides: a native guide and a bilingual naturalist. The native guide has been raised in the area, offering expert knowledge of the rainforest's medicinal properties, insight into the local culture, and eyes that are accustomed to spotting the jungle's hidden treatures. The naturalist guide has been educated in biology and ecology of the rainforest. They come from different countries and backgrounds and will translate for their native guides as well as share their own scientific knowledge of the plants and animals that you encounter.

Bird specialist guides are also available for keen birdwatchers.

CUISINE

Meals are prepared to cater to a variety of international guests, with three buffets each day. Vegetarians are easily taken care of as well as any other special needs. At least one evening will be a barbeque in the outdoor dining area at the edge of the lake.
