Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in the Southern part of Africa nestled between the the Zambezi and Limpobo rivers. The country's name is derived from the Shona word, "dzimba dzemabwe," meaning "houses of stone" in honor of the Great Zimbabwe, the site of the capital of the Munhumutapa Empire.
Early human beings were discovered in Zimbabwe dating to 500,000 years ago, and the earliest settlers in Zimbabwe, the Khoisan dated to 200 b.c. Zimbabwe's history is marked with periods of unrest, which has affected its current condition. While tourists must remain cautious of their safety in Zimbabwe, much like many places around the world, the sights and activities can be found nowhere else. Home to Victoria Falls, the stone enclosures of Great Zimbabwe, the bustling city of Harare, and a plentitude of natural wildlife, visitors can experience the vibrant existence of ancient Zimbabwe, the thriving modern Zimbabwe culture, as well as the adventures of Zimbabwe safari wildlife.
