"We got home Sunday night late from Grand Junction. The trip was fantastic!!! We left Honiara just during the calm after the election and before the Parliament meets to ratify the results. The riot scenes were unreal. We had never seen such devastation first hand in our lives.
Our reservation at the King Solomon was cancelled in order to house some of the guests from the casino that was burned down. When we went to the King Solomon to cash some money during our in Honiara it was quite a contrast of the places….we were lucky to have a room in a motel behind a building that was still smoldering from a fire from the unrest. Luckily, Wilson got us set up with something as well as having Chris meet us at the airport when there was a curfew in place. Since I paid for superior accommodations at the King Solomon, I would like to be sure that the difference is paid to Chris who was our guide in Honiara. He did a fantastic job showing us around even in such troubled times.
Malaita was fantastic. The guide there, Silas, was excellent also. We were able to purchase some great artifacts, but more so the cultural tour we got by staying in the remote villages was very fulfilling. All of the folks we met there were very kind, warm and friendly. It was very worthwhile to travel there. Gizo with Danny and Kari as was Munda with Joe was okay, but next time we would go to more remote villages on Malaita and other islands. As for the diving we would allow for more time at Uepi since it was the best. Jill and Grant have an amazing resort there with the best diving of the entire trip. The village that Kari took us to near Gizo was also really nice.
Thanks again for helping us put this adventure together. You did a wonderful job. Flights were unreliable with Solomon Air, but that was to be expected.
We look forward to our next adventure and would work with you again.
